Take Action

You can support the Grand River Bands of Ottawa Indians’ efforts to be federally recognized by telling lawmakers why federal recognition is important. While the Grand River Bands is recognized by the state of Michigan, acknowledgment by the federal government provides tribal members with access to resources only afforded to federally recognized tribes.

Federal recognition would provide tribal members with access to resources including social services, education, housing, elder care and the ability to exercise treaty rights and weigh in on legislation that impacts tribes.

Contact your members of Congress and tell them why federal recognition is important for the Grand River Bands and Michigan.
